FAQ’s

We have the Answers To your questions

  • 1. Why do I have to call for a quote?

Every sign is unique. The cost varies depending on: the size (6 inches, a foot or 6 feet?); what material it’s painted on (a truck, a wall, a piece of wood, or a rocking chair); how much text or “copy” is included (5 words or 50?); how many colors (1 or more?); and what type of font (some are simple to paint and some are more difficult).  A phone call with our customers gives us the information we need to give you a quote. Often, a short call or text, along with sending us an image of what you want gives us the complete picture to be able to quickly create your quote.

  • 2. How long will it take to make my sign or to letter or pinstripe my vehicle or boat?

It depends on many factors: how busy we are, your deadline, how complicated the project or design is, whether the sign can be made in our shop, if your vehicle can be brought to our shop, or if we have to travel to your business or home. Many projects can be completed in just a few days and others may require a week or more.

  • 3. Do you do vehicle wraps?

No, we don’t do wraps.  Every sign we make is hand-painted.

  • 4. How long will my sign last?

There is no set answer. It depends. We use Sign Painters 1-Shot lettering enamels which are the industry standard. They are specifically formulated for painting signs which will be outdoors in the sun and rain and on vehicles like cars and trucks and boats.  Most signs last for years, some decades.

  • 5. Can I wash my sign if it’s painted on a vehicle or on a store window?

We advise customers who have lettering or designs or pinstripes painted on vehicles to wait two full weeks before washing. The paint will feel dry to the touch, but it takes time for the special sign paint to “cure” or fully harden.  After two weeks, the vehicle can be washed normally, or the boat is ready for water. (Note:  we don’t paint on vehicle windows.)

For store windows, we also advise waiting two weeks, and then hand washing the lettering or design with a sponge or a soft rag. Hard squeegees (which can scratch or leave water deposits) are not recommended to clean our designs on windows.

  • 6. What material will my sign be painted on?

If we are providing the material, we often use metal (steel or aluminum) or MDO Signboard—a material which is specifically made for painting outdoor signs. MDO stands for Medium Density Overlay panel, which is a paintable surface made of plywood with a weather-resistant resin overlay bonded to the wood. We can also paint on glass, for example, on glass doors or store windows. We can usually paint on most products or objects you provide yourself, including plexiglass.  Note: we don’t paint on vehicle glass (car windows).

  • 7. Can I provide my own material for the sign?

You can bring your own materials, but it’s good to have a conversation with us first and we’ll provide advice on what works best. If you have an object you want lettering on, we can generally accommodate you.  We have lettered or painted designs on everything from Christmas ornaments to clocks, to mailboxes and pet houses, to cribs and rocking chairs. Anything you may want personalized.

  • 8. Can I get a discount for large quantities of signs?

Everything is painted by hand and it takes the same amount of time per sign.  If you want two or three identical signs, we can likely accommodate you, and perhaps even give a small price break. However, we don’t do mass production. For example, if you need 30 identical signs, there are other companies that will do this for you.

  • 9. Do you silkscreen T-Shirts, or can you paint the body of my vehicle before you letter it?

We don’t do silkscreens.  And we don’t do autobody paints. These types of jobs can be done by other companies.
